    <description>No. IEA Energy and AI (2025): data centres accounted for around 1.5% of world electricity in 2024, or 415 TWh. The United States 45%, China 25%, Europe 15%. Consumption has grown around 12% per year since 2017, more than four times faster than total electricity. A typical AI-focused data centre consumes as much electricity as 100,000 households; the largest under construction about 20 times that. That is still not most of the world&#x27;s power. Data centres are about one-tenth of global electricity demand growth to 2030 — less than industrial motors, air conditioning, or electric vehicles.</description>

Growth after 2017 was driven by GPU-accelerated AI servers. The 2028 scenario range is 325–580 TWh, or 6.7–12.0% of US electricity; at 50% utilization that is about 74–132 GW. IEA: US data centres account for nearly half of US electricity demand growth to 2030 — not half the bill.</description>

    <description>WUE is annual site water in liters divided by IT energy in kWh (DOE FEMP and The Green Grid). LBNL 2024: modeled US site WUE just over 0.36 L/kWh through 2023, 0.45–0.48 after; direct use about 66 billion liters in 2023; indirect about 800 billion liters / 4.52 L/kWh at the power plant. Site versus source is the grain. Company fleets are not the US average. Virginia JLARC: 2.1 billion gallons in 2023, just over a third reclaimed, under 0.5% of state withdrawals; most buildings at or below a large office (6.7 million gallons a year). The live issue is siting evaporative plants on stressed aquifers.</description>

USDA: 876,460,000 acres of land in farms in 2024. The pad is small against that farm total. Substations, generation, and transmission are the land.</description>

Virginia JLARC: a typical 250,000-square-foot hall about 50 full-time workers, half contractors; peak construction about 1,500 for 12–18 months. Statewide IMPLAN 74,000 is 80% construction-phase, with 4,400 direct operations jobs — not a BLS count. Good Jobs First (October 2016): average 30–50 permanent jobs, up to about 200; Facebook Rutherford County about 500 construction / 42 permanent. Do not use vendor or IMPLAN multipliers as jobs.</description>

Virginia JLARC: sales-and-use exemption since 2010, sunset 2035; $150 million capital / 50 jobs / 150% of prevailing wage; FY23 savings $928.6 million ($683 million state). Brookings: Virginia exemption an estimated $1.6 billion in FY2025. Do not say campuses always pay their way, or never pay tax.</description>

PJM BRA report: Rest-of-RTO clearing $269.92/MW-day versus $28.92 the prior year. JLARC: current Virginia rates assign costs to the causers; unconstrained 2040 Dominion residential generation-and-transmission +$14 to +$37 a month (1,000 kWh) is a scenario, not a 2026 bill.
